This class is designed for those who are looking to improve their chances for employment and are not sure what they really want to do with their future or can't seem to hold down a good job for long. Focus Point is intended to help support students who are unemployed or underemployed find better employment. It is also intended to help students identify barriers to success towards a better life. Computers are also available on site for job search and assistance in submitting applications on line. Click here for volunteer opportunities associated with this program.

Job Readiness and Job Search assistance is available by appointment to work one-on-one toward career goals when classes are not in session. Call for appointment with resume creation, cover letter, interview training, career clothing, or to be tested to see which career would be best for you to pursue. We are here to do whatever we can to help assist you on your journey towards employment. However, we are not a job placement agency.

We have various computer programs such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Microsoft XP and Internet Explorer. Students set up appointments to come and work through the programs on their own and are guided by the computer program through a tutorial. An instructor is there to guide them as needed in learning the program and while they work through their lessons. This is a great way for people who want to gain computer skills but can’t afford expensive classes. It works because they can work around their own schedules, making it very manageable for them to achieve their goal.

Three Hour Seminars available to individuals,
special groups and churches.

Call the office (504) 940-8808 for an update of scheduled dates.

This class teaches how to understand basic budgeting, how to live within your means and how to get a hold of credit card debt. If you need support getting your budget under control, this class will help.

Our literacy program called “Learn to Read.” Taught by a volunteer instructor with a wealth of experience and who has a beautiful, gentle heart to lead those adults struggling to learn how to read, she also makes it all seem so easy and fun. Learning to read can be something conquered, no matter what the age. All a person needs is a will to learn. Call to find out more about classes starting in September 2010.

S.T.E.P. Parenting Program:
Systemic Training For Effective Parenting (S.T.E.P.)
S.T.E.P. Parenting ProgramParenting is not an easy task.  Without a doubt, being an effective Mom or Dad is challenging, but there are effective ways you can help your child grow to be a responsible, respectful, productive, and self-sufficient adult.  At Renewed Hope Center, we are now offering a program to help you do just that.

The STEP parenting program is an effective, eight-session  training program  that focuses on topics important to parents today. This course provides valuable tools which improve communication among family members and lessens conflict.  STEP teaches parents effective skills that can be used immediately to correct unacceptable behaviors such as disobedience, disrespect, and “talking back.”   This training will also help parents with everyday problems such as messy rooms,  and dealing with peer pressure.  It also confronts today's more complex issues-drug use, sex, gangs and depression.

The STEP parenting program is research based and renowned for its success.   The  Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) created a database of parent education programs in the 1990s.   In 2007, it changed the evaluation and review process and became The National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).  The NREPP has qualified STEP for listing. This means you can be assured that STEP has been examined by our nation’s most qualified experts, that it is based in research, and has an emphasis on prevention.

At Renewed Hope Center we deliver the STEP Program in just 8 sessions:

Introduction to the Program
Understanding Yourself and Your Child
Understanding Beliefs and Feelings
Encouraging Your Child and Yourself
Listening and Talking to Your Child
Helping Children Learn to Cooperate
Discipline that Makes Sense
Choosing Your Approach

If you would like to learn more about the tools that you can use to overcome your child’s unacceptable behaviors, we can help. Call us (504) 940-8808.

(a Grief Camp for Kids)

Camp HopeOur newest program being offered is Renewed Hope Center's outreach to grieving children. Renewed Hope Center is a training and counseling center reaching out to those going through difficult times whether out of work and seeking employment, going through financial difficulty or struggling emotionally. In the last five years, a loss of therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists in the St. Tammany areas has caused a lack of social services to this community, especially children. This new pilot program for children in Slidell, Camp Hope, is a unique and innovative camp designed specifically for children who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The losses from which the children have suffered are great and range from cancer and illness, car wrecks, suicide, accidents and even murder. Camp Hope also assists military children who have lost a parent in war action.

Our service is available to ALL children between 6 and 12 years of age who are grieving and need support. Our FREE service offers all the fun of a typical camp, along with group-therapy activities to assist the children with their bereavement process. These activities incorporate the use of art, music, games and play therapies: with the theme of offering true hope for their future. The mission is to restore grieving children and families back into the mainstream of their lives through innovative services. A Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in Play Therapy will conduct each session.

We will be conducting four individual separate sessions.

Session III. - Brave Hearts
March - 2010
Dates and times to be announced
Session IV: - Bearable Summer Fun
Special Summer Adventure - 2010
Dates and times to be announced

If you know anyone who would be interested in having their child attend, please give us a call at the office to register at 504-940-8808. We believe this program will produce healthier, happier and stronger children with a positive mental well being, which will be visible in their homes, schools and social settings. These children are our future and through Camp Hope we can support them together.

Faith-Based Counseling

Conducted by the director of the center who holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Christian Care and Counseling. For people seeking spiritual guidance, encouragement and prayer support, these sessions assist those who find it hard to afford a licensed therapist and although distressed over various circumstances surrounding their lives, have manageable circumstances through which they need help walking. This counseling is not for severe psychological disorders.

Mental Health Counseling:

Mental Health CounselingAt Renewed Hope Center. part of our mission is to provide quality mental health services that empower individuals, children, and families of our community to shape promising futures.  We offer a comprehensive array of mental health services provided by a Licensed Professional Counselor.  At RHC, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality of mental health care.  As a not for profit organization, we can work with you and your insurance company or establish sliding scale fees for individuals without insurance coverage. Although we believe that every individual has something to contribute to efforts made on their behalf, no resident of St. Tammany Parish is refused services for inability to pay.

Although we offer services to everyone, we have mental health counselors who also specializes in child therapy. Many families are not sure who to turn to when a child presents emotional or behavioral difficulties.  At RHC, we take the time to listen to your concerns, evaluate problems, barriers, and strengths, and provide a comprehensive and integrated solution that will help children to reach their goals.

Adolescence can be a difficult time for many teenagers. This is often a time of rapid change, and many teens and their families struggle to keep up with some of the changes that are occurring.  RHC has qualified professionals who will provide quality services to help teens and their families through this difficult period.

Research shows that as many as 1/3 of all people will experience symptoms severe enough to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder at some point in their lives, yet many do not seek treatment for their problems.  The caring and professional staff at RHC is committed to promoting the mental and emotional wellness of the individuals they serve.

Call us to set up an appointment.

The Blooming Tree
(Day Program for Adults Struggling With Mental Illness)

The Blooming Tree is a wellness program designed for people recovering from a range of mental or emotional conditions. At the Blooming Tree, we recognize that therapy, meaningful activity and social connectedness are important factors that can contribute to an improved quality of life. Through the provision of a structured, professional, therapeutic, and socially based program, individuals who attend participate in rehabilitation activities, practice coping skills and improve their ability to function independently. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for individuals with mental or emotional conditions through the provision of ongoing mental health support.

For four hours every Wednesday, a meeting room at High Praise Fellowship Church in Slidell is the site of a special kind of healing and support. For the dozen or so clients gathered for everything from group therapy to craft sessions, The Blooming Tree wellness program provides mental and emotional support that otherwise would be unavailable to them.
